I love this poem. I was recently watching a murder mystery about ghosts and hauntings, and at one point the detective quoted it -- made me laugh! I didn't know anything about the author (the poem just seemed to be in the air about me growing up) -- I'm sorry the rest of what he did couldn't have given us as much pleasure.

I had no idea about the history behind this rhyme. Author looks exactly like Karl Barth.

Wow! I thought it was just a surprising resemblance, largely due to the glasses
